Mental health is important at every stage of our life. It affects how people think, feel, and act. A mental illness can cause disturbances in thinking, emotions, behavior, judgment and hence can make it difficult to cope with the ordinary demands of life. Research is starting to uncover the complicated causes of these diseases which can include genetics, neurochemistry, brain structure, traumatic events of life, drug abuse or organic conditions like heart disease, thyroid dysfunction, etc.
Psychiatry Department of Hamdard institute of Medical Science was established in year 2015 under the leadership of Prof Dr R.C.Jiloha with 10 bedded inpatient facilities. Since then it has been growing in providing various facilities to the patients and contribute to the mental well-being in community.
